The purpose of writing this story is to let my audience experience the feeling of “being there” in the story, For attaining this purpose, I will be sharing real life scenarios that had occurred during my academic career, after reading this story it will be rather easy for my audience to draw the image of the events and experiences that took place in my life. This narration is mainly based on the problems and issues that I have faced throughout my academic life, and how coping with these problems have actually helped me to understand the meaning and importance of education in my life.
Discussion & Analysis
In the beginning of my academic career, I had some difficulties to cope with the overall education scenario i.e. the people (teachers and students), standards and norms of school, the obligations of being a disciplined student etc. All these factors have influenced me to wonder whether my schooling was merely a prison experience for the most part? I felt as if I was compelled and obliged to follow a set of rules and principles of my parents and teachers. There was no such thing as “independence”, most often; I felt that I was forced to follow a set of rules that were actually against my will. I was told by some of my friends, that I was rather too assertive for changing others and the educational system. I wanted things my way all the time.
In high school, however, I exercised a greater degree of independence. I could at least, choose the modules that interested me. I was in high school when I got a chance to interact with students having diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. There I met a student from Bangladesh, and he told me that in his school life, not only he was forced to follow a specific set of rules, but he was also given cruel punishment from teachers (hit by wood or steel rulers) for not completing home works or not complying with the school standards. After listening to his “violent story”, I have started perceiving my previous and present education system quite differently. I learned and improved my communication skills and developed a greater degree of tolerance in me.
Since I was against the norms and standards of the primary school, it became rather difficult for me to keep my focus on studies and that is the reason why I was not considered a very good student in my primary school. However, upon entering high school, and having the chance to interact with students from diverse culture, I had started to cope well with school and schooling, as a result, my high school grades had improved considerably. Though I must admit that I was a bit uncomfortable and underperformed in subjects such as physics and mathematics, I was contrastingly better in Sociology and Communication. I developed such an obsession for excelling these subjects that I took an online course for each of these subjects. As regards ...
