Iraqi Genocide

Introduction

Genocide is a war crime which is prohibited by the international law. Under genocide is also massacre understood, as it is the result of xenophobia. The United Nations took in 1948 the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide, in which genocide is prohibited. Iraq suffers almost daily attacks, especially in the Basra area, including its unique water purification centres and civilian communications. Since the Gulf War, according to the Pentagon itself, there have been over 280,000 Iraqi military flights, most modern U.S. air campaign, and superior to that of the Vietnam War. Iraq says that since December 1998 have died more than 300 civilians and 890 others injured in attacks carried out by 21,600 British and American planes. The Pentagon spends between 50 and 60 billion dollars on its military siege Iraq (Gamson 1989, p. 1).

Even the occurrence of the internal regime change in Iraq, this does not imply that the U.S. lift its aggressive protection of the only Middle Eastern Arab state that by combining population 23 million people and resources, is, in the hegemonic logic of Washington a threat potential for political and economic interests and those of its regional allies, Israel and the oil monarchies. Perhaps the new Baghdad regime established by the U.S. and Britain is formally democratic, with that cynical and utilitarian sense of the concept for the West in general and the U.S. in particular, but it will certainly be a puppet regime, who have stolen it, through resolutions battery in these years by the CS, the strategic levers for independent development and social future of the country, most notably, the management of oil revenues (Morgan 1994, p. 165).

Discussion

USA and Britain had, for months, several reports on Saddam's weapons threat. After Osama bin Laden, and no one seems to have claimed the reward, the global enemy is embodied in Saddam Hussein in possession of weapons of mass destruction. UNSCOM in 1994 ended the first stage of Iraqi disarmament. Strategic arms were destroyed and removed the material for possible reconstruction. The second phase, in charge of launching the devices to the system of checks, and so preventing Iraqi rearmament proceeded without too many problems. In 1998 the disarmament of Iraq was a reality (Robinson 2004, 96).

There have been twelve years of the start of the Gulf War. With the current U.S. troop deployment to the Middle East and U.S. pressure on UN maintains it seems that history will repeat itself. The combined massive aerial bombing and effects embargo on Iraq for twelve years have caused hymanitaire disaster continues to grow. In 1990, after the war that kept Iraq and Iran, the U.S. government was concerned about the power that Iraq had in the area. At the time that Saddam Hussein was raised invade Kuwait, U.S. Ambassador April Glaspie Okayed. In August 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait and suddenly everything changed. In a media campaign the former ally Saddam Hussein became the world's worst dictator (Armstrong 2004, p. 139).
