Introduction

Divorce is a psychological trauma not only for the couple but for their children. More than a million of children are sufferer from divorce of their parents. Divorce effect family relationship it leads to destructive conflict management system. Disturbance and lack of emotional support is found in parent child relationship (Fagan et.al, 2012). According to Kail divorce rate in United States is 50-50 percent and in other countries it is low. As significantly divorce rate is increasing day by day in United States. Ethnicity increased rates of divorce in United States. Gender difference plays a vital role if wife get divorced men remains in the state of shock. Women face financial problems as men fails to accept custody of their child. They have no child support from their ex-husbands. Around 70% women get custody of their child. Father do not want to bear child care expenses, so they do not opt for custody of their child. (Kail, R et.al, 2013). In 2007 identified that ratio of divorce among American couple is 60%, whereas the impact of divorce makes the child stressful and lead to psychological effects (Lewis, 2007).

Impact of divorce on US children

Research studies depicts that children of divorce parents face adjustments problems throughout their lives. Divorce affects the ability of a person to handle a conflict. Children face anxiety, inattention. The effect of parenting modeling is found in divorce children. Children are more aggressive and violent towards dealing with a situation (Kail, R et.al, 2013). Children social skills are affected as they have fear of communicating with others and they have fear of facing the society. Furthermore, divorce parents children usually face dysfunctional families and due to this their behavior is anti social and depressive (Fagan et.al, 2012).

Gender difference plays a vital role while coping up with divorce as a male child is more hostile towards their parents as compared to girls. Judith Wallerstein a clinical psychologist in 1980 made attention to the topic; the effect of divorce on children. She pointed out that 10% of children felt positive attitude towards divorce, and the rest of them have negativity towards divorce. Girls are overwhelmed towards marriage, and it leads to low relationship commitment, lack of trust and effect confidence in a girl than in boy. After marriage, they are not a cooperative and loving partner (Fagan et.al, 2012).

Children behavior in schools is unpredictable and uncontrollable. Studies suggests that children that are involved in fighting, theft and robbery are more from broken homes rather than well behaved children as they are from normal homes (Fagan et.al, 2012).

Preschool children are away from the understanding of the divorce. They realize that a parent is missing from their life. They have fear and anger inside. They might be aggressive towards one parent.
