Immigrants take job opportunities from Americans
According to United State chamber of commerce website, the immigrant labor force is not responsible for taking jobs away from American citizens; instead it is complementing the native workforce. These new immigrants have tend to have skills which are at the very low and at the very high end of spectrums that enable the US economy to create new jobs which were not in existence in the past. Then newly arrived immigrants do not compete with the comparably educated citizens, instead they complement the later, and encourage specialization (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2006).
Most of the people who are immigrating to the US have strong educational background in medicine, business, biotechnology, alternative energy, academics, construction and many more sector's of the private industry. The inculcation of these people in American economy is not only opening new avenues for business but also creating more job related opportunities for both native and immigrants alike (U.S. Chamber of Commerce,2006).
For instance, when an eclectic engineer from immigrant background joins a native alternative company, he or she brings along their experiences at the work place, which provide a fresh perspective on the day to day operations of an organization, and gives them an ability to utilize the new thinking for their long term benefit. The electrical engineer might be able to help the organization to make cost effective solar panels that have low operating cost and high efficiency in terms of generating oil free green energy (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2006).
However, when it comes to low skilled jobs, one can admit that there is a fierce competition among native and immigrants alike. For example, the people who are working in restaurant industry are getting and groceries stores are becoming more threatened by the immigrants who have no problem for working for the less money and perform as good as their native counter parts. This form of trend has created many problems among the two groups and resulted in the various clashes. The politicians are taking advantage from this issue and now using it to gain votes from their lower middle class constituency (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2006).
For example, in the 2008 presidential election, the conservative party promised their blue collar voters that they will make immigration rules more tough and sticker. Although, they say that they will be putting these measures to lower down internal terrorism, but in reality they are doing it because of the pressure they are receiving it from their constituency who perceive immigration as a threat and not as an opportunity to create more employments within the country (U.S. Chamber of Commerce,2006).
The view that immigrant takes up the jobs from the native and gives it to the immigrants is not entirely true, and only show one part of the whole picture. According to the recent study, most of the jobs which low -level immigrant workers take are already declined by the natives because of ...
