Hypothesis Testing Experiment - Women are more likely to comply with Requests Accompany by Flattery

Introduction

This proposal will detail on the research process that is to be carried out in order to conduct an experiment for hypothesis testing purposes. The hypothesis considered for this purpose asserts that "Women are more likely to comply with Requests Accompany by Flattery". The only approach through which this hypothesis can be possibly tested is if women are subjected to flattery and asked for a favor/request at the same time. The following sections will attempt to elaborate on the constituents that will come together to form the experiment. The sections will detail on the identification of the population and the manner in which the representative sample will be obtained. Furthermore, the paper will also detail on the method through which members of the representative sample will be assigned to experimental and control groups. In line with modern day pre-cautionary research preparations, the proposal will also elaborate on the bias reduction and error minimization techniques that will be necessary for effective research conduction.

Population Identification

The population identified for the purpose of this study is that of the female demographic. More specifically, the research will consider the specific female demographic that is above the age of 18 and below the age of 35. No specific consideration shall be given to the marital status of the population.

Representative Sample

The representative sample shall be obtained by locating the research in a scenario where the sample is obtainable with minimal deviation. For this purpose, this proposal recommends that the study is conducted in a facility (that has a members-only entrance policy) with a restaurant, cafe, bar or similar catering area with an attached seating area. The advantages of this particular (and seemingly strange approach) are numerous. Firstly, data collection can be done at times when female attendance at the facility is at its peak. Secondly, the eating area will provide the perfect setting to test the hypothesis.

Random Assignment to Experimental and Control Groups

Random assignment of sample to experimental and control groups will be carried out by not taking any measures to regulate the involvement of participants in the study. All the women entering the eating area will be offered a chance to participate in the study, following which the women agreeing to participate will be given either wrist bands or other similar clearly visible markers that can make it easy to identify them in crowds.

The women in attendance will be asked if they would like to part-take in a research study later on in the evening. They will be informed that an experiment will be conducted for data collection during which they will be required to respond to a set of completely impersonal questions. For this, any set of fictional statements can be utilized (Alvesson & Sandberg, 2011). However, it will be imperative to mention that data will be collected from them when they are not expecting it ...
