Introduction

Human beings study several subjects and disciplines to gain information and knowledge of their surrounding environment. However, humans themselves are a very interesting subject. The fact that that there have lived, died and yet to come individuals belonging to different eras, religion, culture etc, makes all of us special in our own way. This is perhaps the reason behind the existence of many subjects that involves the study of humans, their behavior and their personalities. However, the common reason behind all these subjects is to include, accommodate and study all the possible human experiences and feelings.

There are many modes and subjects that answer the mysteries and puzzles of humans regarding themselves. However, one of the most common is known as Humanities.

Definition

The term humanities can be defined as an academic discipline that involves the study of human feelings and conditions. The subject does so by using methodologies that are basically critical, analytical or speculative as distinguished from the experimental methods of the disciplines of natural sciences (Aldama, 2008).

Because of the logical approach adapted by Humanities, linguistics, music, language, literature and many types of visual arts have been included in the wide field of humanities. However, subjects that involve the understanding of the nature or natural world are included in the radius of natural sciences.
