The paper intends to expound the key theoretical concepts and themes based on understanding the concept of interior design. These themes aim to develop the in depth understanding, skills in research, historical contexts which consequently broaden the understanding of the discipline. This paper would extenuate the key themes such as class, gender, nostalgia, representation, taste and consumerism which will help in articulating the contemporary interior design practice within an historical as well as theoretical context (Taylor and Preston, 2006). However, the study of interior designing will introduce the historical and current contexts of arts, craft and design. This is a specialized programme with the underlying benefits of studying the interior designing such as it would escalate the knowledge, understanding and skills, help in developing the creative ideas based on those themes, increase the capacity of research and analysis. In short, the core objective of this study is to develop the learner's skills and knowledge pertaining to art and design based on the exploration of the specified themes.
