Essay question about Herbert Marcuse and his views
Introduction
Herbert Marcuse born on July 19, associated Frankfurt school of critical theory is a philosopher, political theorist, and a sociologist. He emphasized the dehumanizing impacts of modern day capitalism. One-Dimensional Man (1964) and Eros and Civilization (1955) are considered among the few of the best works of him. Marcuse evaluation of capitalism is basically a derivative of the Karl Marx work. The notion that, capitalism is making humans just a functional object and human factor and morality seems to be missing in the face of unrestrained competition. Marcuse takes this belief to a further extent. He believes that capitalism has pushed the labor so hard, that the laborers have begun to see themselves as an extension of the objects they produce. In his work One-Dimensional Man, he says that people today reorganize themself in commodities, by finding their soles in kitchen equipment, automobile, or even hi-fi set. Today many of the American and international radical scholars, activists, and even politicians are inspired by him. People like Angela Davis (1971) and many others are considered to be inspired by him.
In his Book “The Aesthetic Dimension: Toward a Critique of Marxist Aesthetics”, which is from 1978. It presents the modern art's political implications and relationships with society as a whole in Marcuse point of view. This book is considered the final major work of the Marcuse. It is also particular famous because Marcuse rejects the Marxism aesthetics thereby demarking his views from that of Karl Marx.
