Hamlet's character as sketched by William Shakespeare in his play is considered to be the most dramatic character ever created. He is gloomy, brooding, tender yet ferocious, sophisticated yet civilized and all these characteristics make his personality a psychological one to study. He is already devastated by his father's death and fading prospects of him being a king. His uncle was up to claim the throne and he was left with nothing. To top it all, ghost of his father reveals the bitter truth of his murder which triggers the vengeance in him. In order to understand his own state of mind, Hamlet goes to the shrink where he discusses the ghost event with him.
Dialogues
Therapist: “So, Mr. Hamlet how was your father?”
Hamlet: (replies in confused tone) “He was all armed, as he was going into some battle”.
Therapist: “Which facet of your father's personality do you love? a kind father or a brave soldier?”
Hamlet: “I love my father, I miss his tender love and his guidance, and he was my friend and my teacher. I admire him as a brave person.”
Therapist: “Did you ever give a thought over his death, whether he was murdered or died a natural death?”
Hamlet: “He was an emperor, a King, a warrior yet a kind man, eh had many enemies but he was not sort of a man who someone wants to murder. But I miss him very much. I wish he would not have died yet” (again mumbling about his father).
Therapist: “Was your father angry or sad”?
Hamlet: “He was enraged about his murder by his own brother and betrayal of his beloved queen, he wants me to take his revenge and I will not spare Claudius who took my father and my throne from me”.
