Fast Food Restaurants: More Harm than Good
Introduction
There was a movie in 2004, which was about the detrimental effect fast food has on the health of an individual. Guy named Spurlock was asked to consume fast foods one month. In initial days, his health showed “visible improvement”, but with the passage of time, his health started defoliating (Cohan, 2003). The situation turned grave to an extent that doctors who were keeping a look on the health of Spurlock had to eventually abandon the experiment. The reasons experiment was seized due to the fact that there were fears that continuation of the experiment would lead to irreparable damage to health of Spurlock.
This movie was the clear example of how fast food lack necessary nutritional element of a balanced diet. But make no mistake about it, fast foods are one the more controversial topics as far as food sciences and nutrition is concerned. There are many advantages of fast foods as well. The greatest advantage that fast food provides is that when compared to some of the healthier foods, it on the cheaper side. Another thing that is promptly thrown in the favor of fast food is that is timely and easily available (Freeman, 2007). In today's world, people do not have time to stand in front of the stove and prepare healthy meal. During times when lot of people are facing lot of problems due to the fact that there is lot of scarcity of food, fast foods are doing their bit about controlling some of the shortage of food. It comes off as a cheap alternative for some of the healthy alternatives.
There are economic considerations as well when we talk about the fast food industry. But do all these rights eradicate something that is wrong about fast food.
