Practice Event Reflection: Description, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation

Introduction

This essay is a reflective essay that focuses on a critical situation which happened when I was working as a junior nurse in a hospital. Any critical incident can be described as a 'learning practice which breaks an incident down in its major components for the reason of reflective analysis' Shorter & Stayt (2010, pp. 159-167). As this is a reflection essay, it will present a critical analysis of the situation with an extremely ill mature patient. This reflection analysis will utilize Gibbs model for reflection (1988) to complete this. For the reason of this reflective essay, the patient in this case will be known as Mrs John.

The mode that I have chosen for this essay is the reflective model presented by Gibbs in 1988. This reflection model includes the description of the event or situation which was happened, feelings about the situation happened, evaluation of the event of situation whether it was a bad experience or a good experience, analysis and evaluation of the whole situation that what sense we can made of the condition, and ultimately the conclusion of the overall essay. This model will be used in the reflective essay in order to assist critical thought, connecting theory to the practice wherever the model allows.

Discussion

The event that I have experienced during my appointment as a junior nurse is very close to my heart. This was one of the critical life experiences that I have. This details of the events are describes below.

This incident took place in the mid of my placement as a junior nurse in the ward. The reason for utilising this experience of my life as a critical incident is due to the impact which it had on me. As I was a junior nurse, I was not much experienced for handling patients in emergencies or critical situations. I was not expecting to see my adviser in a state that she did not come into view to be capable to manage with, primarily through lack of correspondence.

Mrs. John is a 45 years old woman suffering from severe myeloid leukaemia. So as to provide treatment care for the disease, it was resolute that a Hickman line likely the most suitable sort of way in for patient, so this practice was carried out in theatre in sterile orders. Mrs. John was good enough to return back to the home just in some hours following the process but she started feeling unwell the next morning. Mrs. John was feeling acute pain at the injury place so revisited the hospital. At what time Mrs John came back to the ward it was obvious this occasion was severe as her chest and neck were exceptionally red and aroused looking as well as she was giving all the hints and manifestations of an extreme infection, i.e. the temperature of 39+C, heartbeat rate above 90 pulsates for every moment, respiratory rate was above 20 breaths for every ...
