Introduction
Gone are those days, when the inhabitants of a society, or members of particular cultures, would be naïve of existence of other cultures and individuals enduring distinct characteristics and values. Let a naïve mind set globalization responsible for this increased knowledge of other cultures or the astute amalgamation of numerous cultures within the same region. However, it is rather interesting and amusing to observe, as though, how these numerous sub cultures tend to preserve their core facets, and features, amidst the clutter of efficacy of other major cultures. What this essay endeavors to render is the prime essence of a subculture in the American society, and comprehend its apparent and underlying features, with the sheer assistance of a member of that subculture (interview).
Ethnography
The term ethnography enunciates the core and sub branch of sociology (anthropology), which plays a pivotal role in rendering the astute and rather comprehensive description of numerous other human societies. Therefore, the ethnography of a subculture, clearly and astutely denotes the description and illustrations of the main facets and characteristics of a sub culture present in a society, in which the real strength or efficacy is relished by other major cultures.
Pakistan's Culture
The objective and task of choosing a sub culture, with distinct features and characteristics, within the broad array of American society was easy, yet quite perplexing. Given the diversity that exists in the American society, an individual would be rendered with numerous options to select a subculture and render an elaborated scientific description in the context of ethnography. However, the more options that exists, the tougher the choice becomes. Therefore, on a personal level, the basic aim, resided to chose a subculture, which is least known in its true spirit and yet misunderstood to a baffling degree.
Therefore, bearing in mind the previously stated connotation, the subculture chosen for this essay, pertained to existence of Pakistan's culture, in America society (in form of the immigrants that have moved here, or have been living here for quite long). Another prime reason for choosing this sub culture was the fact, that not only does it take into account to core characteristics of the Pakistan's culture, but interestingly, their religion (primarily Islam) has a sheer influence, in their beliefs and daily practices.
Interview
The best insight regarding any subculture can be rendered by a person, who himself is part of it and endorses each and every characteristic of that culture. For this particular essay, as mentioned earlier, the chosen subculture of Pakistan's culture. In America, Pakistanis and Indians are found in almost every state; however, Houston, is one place, in which these populations, especially Pakistani are found in great numbers, and that too in form of established sections and societies. For me, it was the luck that a member of that community, who belonged to Houston, named Muhammad Ali, had to visit our city for some professional purposes.
