Effectiveness of Breast Feeding and interventions to promote breast feeding

Research question

This paper focuses over the effectiveness of breast feeding for mothers and the new born babies and the different intervention to promote breast feeding among the people. Breast feeding seems to be prominent in both developing and developed countries that plays an important role for the health of both mother and the infants and is considered as effective methods for infant nutrition. The prevalence of the breast feeding in Canada has risen and almost more than 75 percent of the mothers feed their babies on breast feeding (Palda, et.al, 2004). However the duration of breast feeding by the mothers is not appropriate as recommended by the World Health Organization. The recommended period for breast feeding by WHO for breast feeding is minimum 6 six months and partial breast feeding for up to 2 years. The previous researches show that breast feeding protects children from various diseases such as obesity and type of various chronic diseases (Renfrew, et.al, 2007). This research will also focus over the interventions designed to promote the breast feeding among the people.

Type of study

The study was conducted by analyzing the previous researches conducted on this topic. A systematic review was conducted regarding the awareness in people for the durations and effectiveness of breast feeding. The effect of several elements in order to improve the concept of breast feeding was also used, the topics covered for this analysis were the impact of public policy, training and education clinical changes etc. a systemic research was conducted and analyzed thoroughly. In order to do so the systematic study was conducted among the different electronic data bases over the published research papers and articles that focused over the impact of breast feeding and the awareness women were having regarding the breast feeding. The rationales for inclusion criteria for every subject area were under pinned by consideration existing evidence from previous reviews in the topic area. Apart from that the survey was conducted among different maternity hospitals of the Canada in which the questions were asked regarding the awareness of breast feeding from the pregnant women (Cobb, 2006).

Population studied and sample covered

Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System data was used to determine the rate and duration of the breast feeding among the Canadian mothers. The difference between the mothers breastfeeding their children and the mothers using formulated milk was also determined. The study revealed the samples of impact of breastfeeding in later life of children this included blood pressure that is determined as the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure of blood. The impact of obesity and cholesterol was also determined in the later life of the children (Horta, et.al, 2007).
