Overview

Post Traumatic stress disorder occurs when an individual is exposed to a serious event in lifetime which makes a strong mark on the life of an individual. These events are related to the extreme traumatic disorder. The stressor or the event might be categorized as an event which involves serious threat to the life of an individual death of beloved or emotional stressors which may affect the daily routine of an individual(Joseph & Linley, 2005). It may also include acts to violence, emotional detachments, events of death, injury and unexpected negative events in the life of an individual. The fourth edition of the Diagnostics and Statistics manual of the mental disorders state that the PTSD can be defined as psychological (Kendell and Jablensky, 2003). behavior which may expose an individual to severe stress or individual gone through a series of stressful event which had left a great mark on the life of an individual. It is also related to subjective side of the human reactions where an individual had been exposed horrifying or life threatening event and his response in terms of fear or freeze actions.

Traumatic events where humans are directly exposed to the post traumatic stress disorder are the involved the acts of terrorism, wars, violence, sexual abuse, being a hostage, terrorist and severe torture. PTSD is very common and it affects most of the people and majority of them are women (Joseph & Linley, 2005). PTSD tends to weaken the nervous system of the individuals and develop problems through which they are not able to relieve themselves from that stressful event and it affects them often due to which they develop a continuous stress. There are several strategies through which PTSD can be prevent and make an individual live a normal life again without and symptoms of depression and anxiety. There are several theories which are put forward in order to cure the symptoms of an individual. PTSD is a chronic disorder and it further leads to several disorders in an individual due to which the person is unable to live a normal life. It includes chronic neurological disorders which lead to physical deterioration of an individual.

Interventions which are used to cure the PTSD involve several psychological and pharmacological approaches which are used by the medical science. There are two primary strategies which have been used in order to cure PTSD. First strategy is referred as the universal prevention which is targeted at all the individuals regardless whether they are suffering from the PTSD disorder. Second strategy is referred to as targeted prevention which is entirely focused on the development of the individuals who are suffering from the PTSD disorder. The interventions which are used in the will be further explained with the help of scholarly articles which will provide reason that will further strengthen the arguments put forward.
