The meaning of job satisfaction

The term satisfaction is derived when a person has the fulfillment of a need in a successful way. Job satisfaction is unique in different part of world. Job Satisfaction is not a concept of United States, but most of the research has been conducted in the U.S. regarding this concept. It has been observed that Western employees were found to be more satisfied as compared to Eastern cultures. The reason to this maybe that western people emphasize more positive attitude towards work and focuses on individual happiness as compared to Eastern cultures. In United States, employees search for job satisfaction. On the contrary, employees in several other countries try to create satisfaction in their job (Moynihan & Pandey 2007).

The role of motivation in job Satisfaction

The role of motivation in Job Satisfaction is quite important. The reason is that the motivation has a direct relatiohsip with the Job Satisfaction. The five key motivators outlined by Herzog are achievement, recognition, the work itself, responsibility, and advancement. In contrast to the motivators that drive work satisfaction, hygiene factors do not in themselves produce satisfaction. Indeed, hygiene factors such as salary, working conditions, workload, policy, and supervision may be sources of dissatisfaction and stress (Saari & Judge, 2004).

Measurement of job satisfaction

The concepts of person-environment fit and person-job fit are frequently used to examine job satisfaction. Job satisfaction implies satisfaction with one's current position while career satisfaction refers to the cumulative effects of career accomplishments. From the standpoint of education, teachers who are heavily involved in professional development activities, take on leadership positions, or become mentors or specialists are most likely to have proactive personalities. Therefore, all the factors prove to be the major measurement for the job satisfaction (Biswas, 2011).
