This paper intends to discuss the case study of Dragonfly Solutions Inc. Dragonfly Solutions has emerged as one of the new companies being created as the result of the merger between Dragon Solutions and Fly Solutions. Dragon Solutions was a small company employing fifty people. The basic business of Dragon Solutions was to sell advertising space to car owners. Majority of the employees of Dragon Solutions were between forty five to sixty five years with almost 40% nearing the age of retirement. On the other hand; Fly Solutions was a larger web based advertising company employing one hundred and fifty people. The business of Fly Solutions was to provide business advertising for auto trading. Employees of Fly Solutions are young graduates from diverse groups. Recently, Dragon Solutions and Fly Solutions have merged and appeared as Dragonfly Solutions. The new business of the company is to provide a platform over web for both private car sellers and auto trading businesses.
The case study had four questions from which I have selected the question number four to discuss. Question number four is related to the concepts of dismissal, redundancy and change. The question is “Explain how you will manage the dismissal and redundancy process during the merger. In your answer, consider implications for employee engagement and wellbeing. Justify your decisions with reference to both theory AND research.” The purpose of this paper is to make the readers aware about the significance of considering the concepts of dismissal, redundancy and change while making decisions related to mergers and acquisitions. Through this paper; a brief analysis would be provided about what factors employers need to consider while making decisions to dismissing the employees.
Dismissal, Redundancy and Change
Dismissal, redundancy and change appear to be important concepts in instances where mergers and acquisitions take place. In today's stressful economic situations; it becomes difficult for businesses to survive; therefore, an increasing trend of mergers and acquisitions is witnessed in the business world. As the mergers and acquisitions are increasing; the usage of the concepts of dismissal, redundancy and change has increased (Hardy, 2011 Pp. 150-155).
Dismissal has a simple meaning which is suggested by its name too. Simply dismissing an employee or terminating his employment contract due to any underlying reasons. Dismissing employees usually takes many reasons. Employees who are not being able to deal with the requirements of job or employees who are going against the discipline of the organization are normally the ones to be dismissed. Dismissal is just another name of terminating.
