Does anyone have free will?

Introduction

The question whether the man has a free will is a source of bigger debate and depends on the context in which the concept is being talked about. By 'free' if one individual means that the ability of people to make certain choices then the answer is surely 'yes'. For instance, a person has the free will to choose a certain place of living, buy grocery from a particular store or eat a certain food. Therefore, people are free to act according to their nature and wishes to some extent. The meaning of free without any limitations is where the answer becomes a 'no'. There are certain choices that are bound by limits like I can't choose to fly an aero plane since I do not have the right skills. In short, man is not free to act outside the boundaries of his nature. He cannot live the life of a flying insect and go from place to place. Thus, the free will has its limitations and boundaries under which it is applicable.

Discussion

The examples above are true at a physical and also at a spiritual level. A person who is in near end state cannot choose to be righteous, the Ethiopians cannot make changes to their skin color and nor zebra can erase his stripes from the body. Thus, the will of man also is confined to its sinful nature as his only jurisdiction is the fleshy part of his body. To explain this further, we can say that a person's will is a 'will not' and he only inclines towards carnality. A person's natural behavior is to operate as a sinful as nature of a man is not separate from his 'will' which is not free. Since, the will is not different from his nature it is not capable of choosing its eternal life. So, the hope of a better life hereafter truly depends on God's choice and Will to which a man cannot do anything.

Humans have debated on the issue of free will for a long time and many philosophers have argued about the underpinnings of human choice. However, a larger interest is being gained through neuroscientists who wish to solve the issue. Many amongst them believe that their subjective experience of freedom is nothing more than a deception and there is nothing such a freewill that exists today.

In the past the philosophers had a lot to say in these matters and their thoughts have given rise to new considerations such as cosmological determinism. This concept eludes that everything proceeds in a predictable way and makes free will impossible. The indeterminism is mainly the idea that the universe and our actions in it make free will impossible. There is the third concept of cosmological libertarianism which is the suggestion that free will is logically compatible with deterministic views of the universe.
