Working memory is linked with the concept of short term memory, but these two terms are not identical. Working memory is divided into three components that are the Phonological loop, the visuospatial sketchpad and the central executive.

The phonological loop is supposed to be a special kind storage system that is used for speech based information and also auditory information as well. This system is referred as slave system because it is not clever system; it does not have any capability over decision making and controlling attentions.
