Introduction

This paper would discuss the range of issues that have occurred within the imaging departments at St Patchup's and Karemore Hospitals. The paper would also discuss the local or national guidelines, policies and legal frameworks that are likely to apply to a diagnostic imaging department. In addition, future changes which should be implemented will also be discussed in the paper.

Diagnostic imaging

The appropriate use of diagnostic imaging is currently raises interest. Evidence suggests that 10 to 20% of cases, a medical imaging test is not necessary or inappropriate. Determining the advantages of imaging examination is a complex and multidimensional problem (Smith, 2010, p. 2400). Indeed, the advantages of the case shall be based on age, sex, size and physical limitations of the patient. It may also depend on the disorder and symptoms subject to examination.

Making good decisions on medical imaging is further complicated by the fact that imaging techniques are changing rapidly and some clinical examinations and cases are difficult (Deputy Minister of Health, 2006, p. 13). Moreover, understanding the merits of practices in suggesting diagnostic imaging is more complicated that there is a rising trend in the number of specialists (such as cardiologists, obstetricians, rheumatologists, neurologists and oncologists) who prescribe diagnostic imaging tests and interpret the images and in some cases which direct imaging laboratories (Silva, 2011, p. 458).

Issue related to Safety of the patients and personal safety

According to the scenario, the problem most often reported regarding the use of diagnostic imaging services is the safety of patients. As it was observed that the patient was not handled carefully. The role of the radiologist in this regard is to monitor diagnostic imaging practices and interpret the results of tests for disease diagnosis and treatment of patients. Radiologists can help to define the appropriate use of diagnostic imaging services (Jud, 2006, p. 992). It has advanced effect because of the superiority of their clinical and technical knowledge of exposure; radiologists should play a greater role in decision-making about the safety of imaging, especially respect to issues of safety and proper use of patients.

Issue of mismanagement and workload
