Deterioration of Patient & Nursing Management

Introduction

This case is about deteriorating patient and the role of nurse in managing the care of patient. The case study would include information regarding the patient including the status of patient, information of demographic, and reason for the admission of patient in the hospital.

The role of nurses is extremely important for the recovery of any kind of patient. They are consistently in touch with the patient and are responsible for monitoring and taking care of patients (Liaw, Scherpbier, Klainin and Rethans, 2011). The name of the patient that I took care of was Ms X. The demographic information the patient shows that she is a female who is 86 years old. Her marital status is single and her occupation was being a teacher. She has retired the teaching occupation recently. The date of her admission in the ward of West Trauna was 15th April 2013. Before that, she was admitted in ICU for 32 days.

Reason for Admission

The reason for the admission of patient was a major train accident. The incident took place on 15th March'2013. The train accidently hit a 68 years old female who was badly injured. The condition of the patient is quite severe. However, proper treatment along with nurse management can be a key of assisting the patient to recover.

Injuries

The accident of train has caused several major injuries to Ms X. She has incurred major multi-trauma injuries on her face, chest, abdomen, pelvis and sacrum, spine and limbs. It is not a very easy task for doctors and nurses to effectively monitor and control these injuries. However, based on my professional nursing experience I did try my best level best to assist MS X to recover. Apart from these multi-trauma injuries, she has also incurred other multiple complications that require effective and efficient control by the hospital management. These complications are serious for any kind of patient. The lives of such patients are in great risks who suffer such major multi trauma and complications due to accidents.

Co Morbidities

It is likely for the patient to face severe depression. She has injuries in many areas of her body which can give cause physiological pressure on her mind. The existence of long term depression can be major barrier in the recovery process of Ms X.

Discussion

The acute deterioration of patient is a challenge to majority of the analyst. It becomes extremely important to diagnose the underlying situation of patient immediately and effectively to achieve successful results. The cardiac arrhythmia, acute respiratory breakdown and hypotension are the causes of cardiac arrest that takes place frequently. It becomes important for hospital management to minimize interruption during chest compression along with effective monitoring (Baugher and Mattu, 2011). Therefore, as a nurse I give maximum attention to patient's acute deterioration.
