Introduction

To pursue this assignment, I have visited the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which is located at a prime location in United States. This museum has some great piece of artwork, which are considerably precious gifts in the world of art and literature. This assignment will elucidate upon any one literary piece of art, which is located in the museum for the observant. The museum is also utilized as an exhibition place, where various fashion, films and education exhibitions are conducted. But, there is a great collection of American art, European art, Post World War art, Drawing and Photography etc. However, undoubtedly, every piece of artwork place in the museum in work analyzing and appreciating, nevertheless, out of those hundreds of art pieces, the work that I have chosen is drawing by Cornelis Cort, known as “The Stoning of St. Stephen”. This drawing was made in 1576, and considerably amongst the best art work situated in the museum.

Identification of the Artwork

“The Stoning of St. Stephen” is a drawing, developed in 1576, by Cornelis Cort. This is principally a black and white drawing, drawn with charcoal and pencil. This drawing is formulated on a 22 x 17 inch canvas.

This drawing elucidates great happening, which is associated with the stoning of St. Stephen in c. 34. Saint Stephen was the protomartyr of Christianity, who was a deacon in the early on church of Jerusalem, who was stoned to death by a crowd, because he got engaged with a dispute with the members of Jewish house of prayer.

There are several paintings drawn on his martyr, however, the first painting was painted by a Dutch painter, named as Rembrandt, in the year 1625. This drawing of Cort is principally an inspiration from this painting of Rembrandt, which has shown various people in a chaotic situation. However, in the sky, there is probably Jesus Christ, and a supreme power in receipt of the Saint Stephen.

A Review of the Museum

The curators do a great job with the pulse of art and the selection is always something that will expand your mind. The permanent collection is beautiful and great to visit every time. Oklahoma Museum is a great place for independent films (almost one of the only places in the area). The restaurant is a bit pricey for dinner but great brunch and lunch menus. What a great museum is tucked away in Oklahoma City. From the constant hits to special exhibitions is - world-class museum. Families will love the opportunity to make great art accessible to their children, as well.

We visited the museum to see the Chihuly exhibit. We love glass art and this show did not disappoint. The museum has one of the largest samples of Chihuly glass. The colors, forms and presentations of all the glass pieces were beautiful. I'm not an artistic person, but I enjoyed my visit. Not so much a place, but a nice place to spend 2-3 hours ...
