Introduction

Conflict is defined as a disagreement through which the parties involved in a situation of consensus ad-idem which means that there is a disagreement between interests and their needs. Managers often worry about conflict in their teams, afraid that any sign of trouble will undermine performance. A typical response to conflict is to ignore it and to avoid getting to the root of the problem and hope that it will somehow go away.

Myth of Conflict Resolution

The conflict is a dispute over at least two interdependent parties who believe (it is not necessarily true, just a personal belief) that their goals are incompatible. Conflicts exist at all levels of society, at the individual, group, and community level. Conflicts may also exist among individuals. That a conflict may depend on a variety of things, but a few examples is that they have different goals, values and interests, misinterpretations of situations or unsatisfied needs. Living with conflicts, both internal and external, takes a lot of energy and makes you feel heaviness and fragmented. So it is important not to ignore them. Instead, one should try to find out the cause and its effect, and then try to influence and resolve conflict. Most of the time managers maintain such an environment in companies which should about Conflicts because this would rupture their performance and creates a situation of disturbance (Andole & Sandole, 2006).

It takes courage and willingness to face the conflict. Therefore there are a number of reasons why people choose not to be aware of a conflict.

Historical perspective

The concept of conflict resolution is a universal one which starts from the beginning of human existence but its proper implementation can be witnessed during the mid of 1950s and 1960s, when the Cold War is on peak. The major conflict arises on the development of nuclear weapons and its threat to human life. After wards the conflict was addressed and resolved through a peace agreement among the nations who developed it. The conflict was resolved due to bilateral dialogues among the nations and their representatives (Andole & Sandole, 2006). Conflicts can develop very differently in a number of situations depending on how well they are handled. Presently the concept of conflict management is common in the commercial business setups. Managers are continuously monitoring the business environment and there foremost step is to implement certain strategies which avoids the situation in the future also. All criticism and any attempt to change swept under the carpet, because it denies the existence of conflict. If a conflict is instead recognized and solved it often leads to those involved get a better understanding of each other's thoughts, feelings and needs, but also to increased openness, creativity and consensus. The conflict may in this way contribute to a relationship.
