Introduction

Communication is a method of achieving efficiency and productivity in organizations. It provides a platform that links the people who are working together. Communication involves two or more people, interacting in an environment, it is transactional. Without this vital ingredient, the trend of relationship within organizations cannot be achieved and will serve for no purpose (Bolarinwa & Olorunfemi, 2009). Communication is the conveying of information from sender to receiver, provided that, information is being understood by receiver (Koontz, 2001). Communication is a process in which people share their ideas, information and feelings, besides verbal and written communication, this process also involves the body language, style and personal characteristics. The study of the organizational communication structure involves two perplexed concepts, i.e. organization and communication. The mingling of these two concepts has been approached in a variety of ways (Bolarinwa & Olorunfemi, 2009).

Communication plays a significant role in the success of every organization. Success of organizations depends on the capability of it to attract people who want to perform at the highest level; one essential way to get this value is to mutual sharing of information and the level of trust. Effective interpersonal communication skills build an efficient work environment; on the other hand, poor skills reduce the productivity (Northup, 2008). Hence, the communication structure in any organization plays a significant role in enhancing the productivity and efficiency.

Background of Organizational Communication

The notion of organizational communication can be traced back to the middle of the last century. These days it is a well-established area of study. Some of its originating strategies can be linked with the fields like business management, sociology, industry and psychology. Three schools of thoughts are describing in this context: namely, the classical, human resources, and human relations approach, the concept of these approaches is very relevant in today's business environment. These approaches describe how organizations should operate rather than how they are operating.

The primary purpose of these schools of thought was not devising the organizational communication structure; rather they had implications for communication in organizational perspective (Bolarinwa & Olorunfemi, 2009). This indicates that the different schools of thoughts were not aimed to cater the specific topic of organizational structure; however, the purpose of these perspectives was based on the consequence of communication in the organizational spectrum from a holistic point of view.

Communication Concepts

As a matter of fact, the communication within an organization plays a significant role for its overall success; it provides a platform for different function to float and to achieve their endeavors. However, communication is medium for sharing information, building relationships, conveying the ideas and new concepts, and so on, for any organization communication is the harbinger of success. Following are the proposed communication models, whose efficacy and efficiency help the organization to yield maximum productivity and efficiency:
