Introduction

The paper discusses the general characteristics of a personal computer and the role of hardware in excelling the performance of the computer. The techniques of expediting the computer performance along with their advantages will also be a part of the discussion.

Basically, Central Processing Unit (CPU) is responsible for processing the user program that we will introduce you in our later discussion. To do this we have several areas of memory, registers, and program instructions (Roper and Millar, 1999). Additionally, in some more advanced models, we have already integrated functions of the CPU, such as PID control, and position. Communication channels that interconnect computer terminals and networks are known as communications; all the "Hardware" interconnects and supports all the "software" that manages the transmission.

Current Computer

In general terms, a personal computer comprises of the following features:

Performance (speed) PC - It is the ability to handle large volumes of computer data. The performance of the computer is determined by the speed of the processor, amount of RAM and speed of access to it (e.g. Pentium III process information at speeds of hundreds of millions of operations per second). Performance (speed) of the processor is the number of elementary operations performed in 1 second.

CPU clock frequency (clock frequency) is the number of processor cycles per second, and the clock - the time interval (microseconds) for which you are an elementary operation (e.g. addition). Thus, the clock frequency is the number of pulses produced per second, synchronizing the work of the computer nodes.

Access time is the Speed ??OD units which is a period of time required to read the min pieces of information from memory or written to memory. Current modules have the access speed of more than 10 ns (1 ns = 10 -9 s)

Memory size (capacity) is the max amount of information that can be stored in it.

Areal density is the amount of data stored per unit length of track (bits / mm).

Hardware Characteristics

A CPU is composed of the housing and its materials. Elements external to the CPU are called peripherals. The central unit must be connected to a set of external devices. A computer is generally composed of at least a central processing unit, a screen (monitor), a keyboard and a mouse, but it is possible to connect a wide variety of peripheral interfaces on the serial ports, parallel port, USB port and Firewire port (Gilbert, 2010). In other words, the characteristics of computer hardware are input devices, output devices, central processing unit, and memory and storage devices.

My Dream Computer

I would personally prefer upgrading my computer with the following changes in the computer hardware and software:

Streaming SIMD Extensions

Multiprocessing is not difficult to understand. More processors mean more computing power. A set of tasks can be completed more quickly if there are multiple units running in parallel processing ('Computer Hardware', 2012). That's the theory, but practice is another story; the process to run the multithreaded requires a deep knowledge of both hardware and software. Widely as it is ...
