Introduction

Myths and legends have been a part of the lives of people since long times. Myths are the sacred narratives that are conventionally used to describe and explain that how the human kind or the world came into being and evolved to the present form. They can be referred to as the traditional stories of different religions and different cultures. Myths usually contain and revolve around an event or a hero. They may have or may not have a factual or a logical explanation. Myths are invented stories, concept or an idea. They belong to imaginary or fictitious person or things. Myths have also been defined as false or unproven beliefs that are used to justify some social institution (www.dictionary.reference.com). Myths, like the sacred stories, are also endorsed by priests and rulers. They are closely linked to spirituality and religion. The society which holds and tells the myth regard them as true. Many societies have two types of traditional narratives, myths or "true stories", and fables or "false stories". There are many myths, which are told, in the societies. One of the most famous myth is that of Hercules. Another famous one is that of Jesus. Many people have been comparing the two myths and the main characters of the two myths. Hercules and Jesus have many similarities between them, as well as, differences. This essay will look into the similarities and differences between the two mythical figures and will provide an explanation for those similarities or differences.

Discussion

If someone asked the world, "Who is the son of God?', more than two billion people around the world would say, "Jesus is the son of God". This makes around one third of the total population of the world. However, long before the time that Jesus was born, and was claimed to be the Son of God, Hercules held the title. Hercules, or Hearcles, was known as the Son of God in ancient times.

Similarities between Jesus and Hercules

If one looks into the evidence for Hercules, who belongs to the Greek mythology, the similarities with Jesus' myth is one astounding thing. Some of the similarities among the two mythological figures are described below.

Method of conception

Alcmene, who was the mother of Hercules, was a chaste and a mortal human being. She gave birth to Hercules as a result of the union with Zeus, a god. Zeus, who was the head of the gods of Olympus, who were twelve in number. Despite the fact that he was a god, he had a fundamental weakness. He could not resist beautiful mortal women. When he saw Alcmene, Zeus yearned for Alcmene. He took the form of Amphitryon, Alcmene's husband and fooled Alcmene into making love with him. As a consequence, Hercules was born. He was the son of a mortal being and a god.
