COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS Of TWO FIRMS

Abstract

This research paper performs a comparative analysis between two different firms operating in two different countries having similar challenges. This analysis provides me an opportunity to compare and contrast and critically assess the impact on management decision making. The two identified firms are Kudler Fine Foods operating in United States and Whole Foods Market's United Kingdom division. The PESTEL analysis facing both organizations have been studied with the impact on business management decision making. At the end, brief recommendations are also provided to both the companies regarding the analysis of their business operations.

Kudler Fine Foods

Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) in La Jolla is a gourmet food store. The company is profitable, stable and successful business management. Opportunities and threats are identified by scanning the external environment. Kudler closely observe the products offered by competitors, and keep a check on advertisements in print and electronic media. Kudler Foods obtains product samples and introduces them to managers to get product feedback, suggestions and recommendations. This market intelligence on competitive products is used to gain a competitive advantage over competitors through different factors such as price, quantity and quality (Kudler Fine Foods, 2011).

Political

European Committee decision to permit a free flow of trade among themselves and other countries under the foreign trade regulations makes companies to import their products over time easier than before. Kudler Food competitors took advantage of its higher cost structure and bit off some its market share.

Economic

Kudler Food competitors are specialized in niche markets and consumers' focus which make them to provide much better consumers satisfaction. They prefer to import their products from abroad for cost savings; this fact puts Kudler Food in a cost disadvantage for a perceived "higher quality".

Social

Consumers' concept in the marketplace has changed; they do not sense British products as of high quality. Moreover the price sensitivity of the majority of the consumers has increased leaving Kudler Food in a less competitive position.

Technological

Media played a major role of communicating new fashions to the customers. This knowledge can be communicated to the designers and producers, so a manufacturer in Thailand or China can be aware of the current fashion trends in US.
