The Role of Community Work

Introduction

Community work is referred to the services that are performed by a group of people for the betterment of the entire society. The core focus of this paper is to answer the following questions related to a case study relevant to community work in the society.

1.1 Summarize the project in the case study of your choice according to the themes of action

In both the case studies the role of initiators has been highlighted. One has to take up a leading role in order to collect the people for attaining mutual targets. To bring any change, communities have to have some active role. This involves professionals, retirees, students, housewives and unemployed people. Conviction is imperative to achieving the desired goals. There is another aspect that is normally not favored but gets the due respect here which is the rise of conflicts and 'enemy'. Not all the conflicts are bad; on the contrary, they are constructive. They compel the participants to think of innovative ideas. There has to be a concrete planning and implementation phase. In the end reflection should be observed by the committee. Committee formation solves a lot of real and potential issues. This is about the distribution of authority and responsibilities. The participant will not have to face confusion and thus will reduce the chances of unproductive petty issues (Grobler & Schenck, 2009).

1.2 ldentify specific practices, methods or techniques (PRA/PRA) that were used or could have been used for facilitating each theme of action. Provide a detailed illustration on the activity (method). To answer this, consider activities completed during workshops (activities from Hope & Timmel, Schenck et ai, Swanepoel & De Beer, and Henderson & Thomas

PRA or Participatory Rural Appraisal is a research methodology that provides the community workers with a tool to establish a deep contact with the participants. Under this method community mapping and drawing a tree come. The goal of both the activities is to encourage everyone in the group to participate and utilize whatever skills they have. The facilitator motivates them to do everything themselves and this way he can gauge the individual's ability and later use it for the purpose. For the purpose community surveys are also done but the facilitators have to be expert enough to take the inside out of the participants. Need analysis can be done this way and separate community profiles can be made which later facilitates the committee deploy the skills (Hope et at., 1995). In the efforts to develop a healthy community, in case 2 the committee acquired professional help of trainers who agreed to train the workers and instill the required skills and knowledge. Despite the tensed recession, the community directed the energy of the people to do something together which will eventually result in everyone's prosperity. The phase of creating 'hope' was inspiring since people usually lose their hopes to think better ways and do something constructive and come out of bad patch of time. The suffering of the Black community ...
