Introduction

Gender identity is known as one of the most important categories that come under the human social behavior and understanding. Therefore, it observed that both within and across different cultures there is a great consistency witnessed in terms of standards of desirable gender-role behavior. For the readers understanding, males generally known for their independence and competition, whereas, on the other hand females are known for their passiveness, sensitivity and support. However, with the passage of time, these beliefs altered a little bit but the fact remained the same in the United States and in other parts of the world.

Therefore, the following research proposal formulated on the issue of gender role and identity among the children and youth. To conduct the research in a formal way, the research will be based on different research questions that will help to conduct the research in an appropriate and professional manner.

In the recent times, how children learn about or acquire gender roles becoming an increasingly popular topic, however, looking at the variables there are numerous variables that working together to influence the child's understanding regarding the gender role and identity (Drury, et. al., 2012).

Research Questions

The research based on the following research questions;

What is the role of school and education in determining the gender and identity among the children and youth?

What are the different factors on which the identity and gender role based on?

Do curricular interventions have any significant impact on the gender role and identity of children and youth?

Significance of the Study

The significance of the study can be analyzed from the research question that the motive behind the research is to search the role of schools and society in determining the gender role and identity of children and youth. As the youngsters actually begin developing stronger gender identifies long before the middle of childhood. Therefore, a child's awareness regarding gender starts in the first few years of birth. In this regard, to study the role of schools and education system is very critical because schools are the place where children spend most of the time and their social life start from there. Therefore, if someone face problem at this stage of life regarding gender than if would be really hard to get back to normal life.

Literature Review

Historical Context

Historically, gender differences have been a major influence on the way U.S. education has been thought about and practiced. It was once not considered important to educate females, and even when they began to seek education in greater numbers, they were limited to education that prepared them for traditionally female professions, such as teaching and nursing. Today, many scholars argue that although gender bias in education is not as explicit as it once was, it continues to exist on a subtle, but no less harmful level.
