Cardiology Personal Statement

I've always been interested in medicine since childhood. The curiosity began and I was mesmerized by the miracles of life. I was brought up in a very large family where I got to learn many things such as hard work, reliability and responsibility. Growing up I was very lucky enough to live with both of my parents. My father was a history teacher and my mother was a house wife. They were very generous, and supportive. They always instilled in me the idea that I should always try my best at everything I do. Since child hood I was very passionate about studying science and I was a top performer in my class.

My interest in learning medicine stemmed from a profound curiosity concerning the human body, and I always wish to work with public. I had further insights into a career in medicine for which I even spent one week in a health care center. The intimacy of a doctor patient relationship was appreciated by me. I was granted acceptance to one of the main medical schools in the country. In first year of my medical school, that one of the most pivotal moments in my life occurred. My father who was very dear to me suffered from myocardial infarction. In the hospital, at his bedside a limited amount of my medical knowledge seemed useless; everything that matter was the expertise of the health care professional and ability to explain the condition of my father. Then my father died suddenly of a heart attack. This experience prepared me to various roles that a good physician must play both a caring guide and a rational scientist. My father's death gave me further ambition to work hard and be keener.

After graduation from medical school, I was accepted by the General and Cardiovascular Surgery program, an Arab board training program equivalent to US residency training. After 4 years of training, I had the opportunity to come to the US and work as a post-doctoral fellow in prestigious programs, prompting me to pursue further training and execute residency in the United States. My trainings and experience afforded me a glimpse in the field of cardiology. I did not embark onto this career path lightly.
