Bullying

Introduction

Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior which is exhibited by the use of force and affects other in a negative way. Bullying can be in the form of verbal harassment, physical assault and can be done repeatedly towards victims. Bullying is done on grounds of race, gender, sexuality or ability. The person to whom bullying is done is called a target and people try to abuse them socially or physically. (Olewus, pp.12).

Bullying can occur anywhere where human beings interact with each other. This may include schools, colleges, church, and workplace. Bullying can also exist in various social groups, social classes and even between different countries. Bullying can be in the form of abuse, emotional, verbal or physical. Boys usually tend to use physical intimidation, threats and other ways to bully their victims. Girls usually bully others through verbal abuse. Bullying can cause severe affects on the victim and many victims go in depression and commit suicide.

Discussion

Bullying is a common issue that has become a part of schools, communities and workplace. Bullying has a very negative impact on the environment of the place and on people who are victim of bullying. Every per son has the right to live in a society without any fear or harm. Bullying not only affects the environment but it affects the academic, physical and emotional life of the victim.

Types of bullying

There are five main types of bullying. Some bullying can be observed quickly and some cannot be judged. Bullying can be of any type, can have lasting and negative impact on the physical and mental health of the victim. The types of bullying are discussed below (Stevens & Fort, pp.82)

Physical bullying

Physical bullying involves hurting or causing harm to the victim physically. Bullies mostly use their physical force to attack and assault their victims.

Verbal bullying

Verbal bullying is actually name calling and abusing other verbally. It involves making remarks about others on the basis of their religion, sex or gender. The bullies harm other emotions and feelings by saying hurtful things. Most of the time girls are found getting involved in verbal bullying. This type of bullying is difficult to recognize and remains unnoticed.

Relational bullying

This type of bullying involves causing harm to victims and trying to destroy their social image and relationship. This bullying is done at all levels by people of all age groups. It's difficult to identify this bullying as no one recognizes who is trying to destroy victim's relationship. (Stevens & Fort, pp.88)

Intimidation

This type of bullying is very dangerous and harmful. The bully actually involves someone else and threatens the victim and makes him do things what he wants him to do. The person threatens the victim and in some situations forces the victim to do unlawful activities.

Cyber bullying
