Introduction

Daniel Pink in his book "A Whole New Mind" uses the two sides of the human brain as a metaphor for understanding how the information age came about throughout the course of the past generation, counseling readers on how to survive and find a place in a society which has a rising effect due to affluence, job outsourcing, and computer technology at the expense of inventiveness, empathy, and meaning. We will reflect on the study of the Six Senses in the book which are Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, & Meaning and study how they could be applied to a school district Superintendent.

Discussion

The writer explains that it is extremely important to think differently in a new world offers learn to think with both hemispheres of the brain so as to meet the current challenges of the society and the western economy. Daniel Pink says that we are going from the information age in to the conceptual age. He stressed that the information age of the "knowledge workers" favored above the capacity of the left hemisphere of the brain that comprises of logic. However, radical changes needed to maintain both our standard of living and our quality of being. Competition from Asian countries causes the need for value-added products and services. In addition, automation has allowed the replacement of humans by high-tech softwares which require capacity to combine existing elements to make new ones. All these changes show the urgent need to do things differently. Knowing things belongs more to the right hemisphere of the brain, it includes creativity, new ideas and ways of thinking differently, it is important to ensure that everyone develops both brain hemispheres in a balanced way (Rorbert, 2007).

The first part of the book is entitled as the conceptual era, it presents the theoretical dimensions more about the brain, current trends and the capacity to cross the contemporary world. The second part is entitled the six senses, it contains practical ways to develop the skills of the right hemisphere and tools needed to succeed professionally and experience satisfaction in his personal life to the conceptual age.
