In the article by Shelly Banjo and Syed Zain Al-Mahmood, they bring into fore the economic conditions that are prevailing in the country as well as some of the crises that are looming over the country at the moment. The export of the garment products of Bangladesh have been surging for an year of half. This comes as a surprise despite that fact that there have been many industrial accidents, as well as concerns over the overall working conditions in Bangladesh. The exports have surged by 24% when one compares the figures from the last summer. These figures are released by Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau. There are many international concerns that are being raised over the Garment industry in Bangladesh, but despite this fact, the exports are showing a surge. The working conditions in Bangladesh are atrocious to say the least. The international community has been showing its concerns over the way things are working in Bangladesh. Despite this surge in the exports, it is strange to say that Bangladesh is not performing as per its potential. The infrastructure of the country is not showing lot of improvement and this is one thing that will linger the development of the Bangladesh economy. The transportation networks such as Road and Rail networks are not really working out that well. There are electricity shortages as well that has turned into a crisis with the passage of time. These are some of the things that are discussed in the article.

Discussion

The garment exports in Bangladesh are surging. This is primarily due to the fact that global retailers have expanded their work with the passage of time. It marks increase in the global demand for the Bengali Garments. But one thing that is of grave concern for them is that the working condition in the Bangladeshi leaves a lot to be desired. The Garments exports have increased by just about 25% with the passage of time. But the incidents are increasing in which the employ security is put under the jeopardy. There are extremely low wages. This is something that is not right but it is completely understandable as in some of the high capacity countries, the working conditions are far from ideal.

International Concern about the Working Conditions

This is pretty much the same case in Bangladesh. There was a particular incident in April that there was a deadly fire in the fabric mill. It does not mean that the global community does not really care that much about the work practices that are prevailing in Bangladesh.
