Bad Leadership Behavior

Introduction

The current trends and conditions which are prevailing in the organizations have enhanced the accountability for bad leadership behavior. It is detrimental to the employees' motivation and satisfaction. The parent and community participation have also increased in the education sector at the district level. The bad leaders are creating various issues and problems for the organizations and mostly for the employees. Leaders get too busy in the day-to-day affairs of the organization that they forget to take a step backwards to look at the bigger picture. Leaders are supposed to have foresight and the ability to translate vision to reality. Unfortunately, this lacks in the bad leaders (Liu et.al, 2013).

Research has shown that there are 5 common traps or bad habits that more than 10% of all leaders demonstrate. After leaving a meeting with a bad leader, you feel exhausted and de-motivated. Bad leaders set appointments and are late for them or do not show up at all. Bad leaders talk down to you. Bad leaders put themselves and their emotions above the team. Bad leaders think they are the team. Bad leaders love group thought. Bad leaders develop themselves. Bad leaders expect you to know what they are thinking (Fleishman, 1998).

Impact of Bad Leadership Behavior on Organizations

According to the organizational survey of employees in which 335 participants participated, the bad behavior of the leaders is perceived by their employees as a threat to the employees and also to the organization. Leaders get too busy in the day-to-day affairs of the organization that they forget to take a step backwards to look at the bigger picture. Leaders are supposed to have foresight and the ability to translate vision to reality. A leader whose nose is always close to the ground will not be able to see the coming bumps in the road, or the goals that they have marked for the organization. Bad leaders have that mistaken thinking that their idea is always, or at least almost always, the best. They do not recognize the potential riches in the ideas put forward by their subordinates. This is also a symptom that the leader does not trust his subordinates. The findings obtained clearly indicated that there is a nonlinear relationship between turnover and leader exchange, turnover is the lowest when the leader exchange is minimum, high turnover was associated with bad leader exchange (Thoroughgood et.al, 2010).

For effective and efficient organization's structure, leadership, decision making and structure, people, work processes and systems and culture are the main factors which can be seen in the organization structure. Effective leadership refers to cohesive or unified leadership team and priorities and clear vision are also the factors of leadership. The challenge these days is to be good leader. Only this way our partners will be diligent to do a better job and generate a favorable environment in the organization, resulting in both productive and good organizational results (Leary et.al, 2013).
