INTRODUCTION

The paper sheds light on the common leadership styles which are being implemented in organizations worldwide and compares these styles with the leadership of today. It shows how the 21st century has evolved the meaning of leadership, and how various factors have shifted the balance from an authoritative to a democratic style of leadership. It further discusses the growing tendency of working together as a unit - teams and groups - and how every member takes up the leadership duty rather than depending on just a single leader for orders and guidance. (Erin White, 21st Novemeber 2005, pp 1-4, Management Managing). Leadership styles have changed over the period of time. Even though, the basics remain the same, but the execution has changed. This paper sheds light on the various leadership styles which are commonly adopted by the managers of organizations around the globe. It looks into their strengths, applications and short comings. Moreover, it also talks about how the leadership patterns have evolved over the past.

EXAMPLES OF EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP

Transformational Style of Leadership

Charisma and vision are two important dimensions of transformational leadership. One can deviate from change. Leaders are born to change and influence their selves, their subordinates and organizations. The business management n Russia has experienced an exponential and incredible transformation in the mode of leadership. Mr. Bo Anderson was the change agent for Russian cars. His exemplary .leadership style defines his vision and process development for Gorky Automobile Factory (GAZ) Group. According to the article, he never regrets to take challenges. He had to lay off his company's workforce and shutdown production which were not acceptable. His leadership style reflects to practice what he preaches. He builds performance over friendship. Mr. Anderson focused on supplier relationship. Bo created global supplier performance through millions of investment from General Motors (his previous workplace).

The shutting down of in-house car production became favorable and later everyone accepted this. His managerial decisions and leadership excellence acknowledged GAZ to earn profit after devastating years of financial crisis. Gaining losses from the abandoned of production lines and converting them into profits was a challenging task. Mr. Anderson made it possible for the organization at large (Lukas I. Facilitative Style of Leadership

Facilitative style of leadership focuses on process improvement. It uses indirect communication pattern to facilitate customers at large. Microsoft has launched Kinect, a motion sensing device that stimulates creative thoughts for using gaming accessory for different applications. Sheridan Jones and Zeb Kimmel are innovators behind this technology. These gentlemen have shown great sense of responsibility, ownership and motivation. Microsoft has expanded this potential application to the markets of China for the greater interest of consumers and businesses. They have embedded technology which can sense human gestures and slight patterns of movements. This helps to track health problems like pneumonia and osteoarthritis.
