Required Skills of Executives

Corporate citizenship is an important aspect of national development as it is a way by which individuals help to develop the nation. The formulation of ideas is vital to bring changes in the nation. Contributing to the development of the society is an important task of corporate citizenship and gets people involved in the issues of the society.

Political competence and good corporate citizenship are interrelated to each other in several ways. In order to be a good corporate citizen, a person or organization must possess the following characteristics: high values of business ethics, work as a part of the society, protect the environment, good corporate governance, and engaging in fair business practices and fair trade. Similarly, political competence is related to the ability of an individual to take action, create agendas, understand the overall environment, and deliver positive results. In order to be political competent, several features are needed. These include identifying the stakeholders and mapping the political terrain, building coalitions, and win the support of others by making things happen.

In order to be a good corporate citizen and politically competent, it is necessary to be honest, a good communicator, experienced, faithful, and be capable of maintain strong relationships with the society. Political competence means that the individual or organization must address the issues being faced by his domain and influence the framing of policies at the federal and state level. The CEO of healthcare organizations should have influence over the government while strategic plans are being framed. This function is a part of the management of healthcare organizations in which executives respond to the products, services, health policies, and the market of the organization (Conill & Scho¨nwa¨lder-Kuntze, 2008).

The skills possessed by executives should be such that they can manage the daily tasks of handling the healthcare organization in a way that is socially acceptable. Since healthcare is necessary for the welfare of the society, executives play a part in promoting welfare in the society by providing care in the society. Apart from this, they also need to have the skills to communicate to the state and federal level in order to influence the policies being framed.

Developing political competence is one of the ways by which healthcare organizations can display their care for the community and individuals. Although policy advocacy is a valuable nursing activity and a major function of public health, the process of acquiring the attitudes and skills are often not explored.

Despite several examples of politically competent executives, there is a shortage of such people. However, those who possess these skills are patriotic, and fight for the democratic freedom of the citizens. They pass on the values gained from their experience and provide people the rights that they deserve. Although such people may disagree on some issues, the society as a whole believed and accepts these disagreements since they have faith in such individuals and organizations.
