John Rapley, “The New Middle Ages,” Foreign Affairs (May/June 2006)

Rapely in his article has focused on the changing nature of middle ages, which according to him, has ended a long time ago. Accoring to this author, now all the so called states are being ruled by group of different people, and in this article he aims to analyze their ways of ruling their particular states, and its advantages and disadvantages to local community.

For instance, if an individual enters in a crowded place, where, local people are looking for protection from local goons, individual would develop feeling of tension, anxiety, and fear. However, if the local don, or party allows you to move around the place, then an individual will feel free and safe like a bird, and would start to belief this is the best place of the world.

Moreover, (Rapely, 2006) in his article have disclosed that local gangs have unique way of ruling the state, and they follow thie own rules and regulation. For instance, local goons take extortion form the business community, and offer them protection in return, and individual falling to give extortion would face sever punishment from the leader of the local gang. Author in this article has particularly discussed the activities of gangs of Jamaica, that are known as organized organization, with a specific territory and mission. Funding of majority of these gangs come from their active participation in the illegal drug market, and have develop strong and cordial relationship with the law enforcement agencies of the country.
