Introduction

From prehistoric times to this contemporary era, art history spans the history of mankind. One can find art in caveman paintings, the art that challenges one's creative side and inspire everyone to see beauty in it. However, this beauty of art and attraction varies from person to person. In the contemporary world, history of art is taught as a discipline, to make people understand the work of art. Moreover, to evaluate and interpret the work according to their own perspective.

In this research paper, the focus is on a very small comparison of the art present in our museum with the ancient art. For the purpose of research, i took the museum of Brooklyn. It has a great variety of art present in it along with all its description and finest public collection of American art.

Discussion

The Brooklyn museum possesses the oldest and the most creative collection of American art of all times. It has a wide collection of the nineteenth century's paintings and landscape of Thomas Cole, John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, Winslow Homer, and Albert Bierstadt. The most famous work by Homer and Sargent in this museum were famous images in watercolors, which surveys over three centuries. Also, it has a strong collection of early modernist work, such as, Max Weber, Charles Sheeler, and Marsden Hartley (BMA, 2011).

One of the most eye-catching pieces of art was the painting famous as 'The Peaceable Kingdom'. The painting was from 1820's by Edward Hicks (1780-1849). This painting is an effort to show his artistic work with faith. The main focus of this painting was the subject discussed in the Book of Christianity that portrayed a world in which children, meeker and predatory animals live together with harmony. The background of the painting represents the historical event of the treaty signed between Native Americans and William Penn. This painting represents hope for reconstruction of society after theological split. The painting is painted with oil paints on canvas. The art resembles the prehistorian tapestry called summer's triumph, created in Burges (1538). The tapestry also portrays harmonic society along with different culture. This painting presently resides in Bayerishches Museum.

Watercolor usually does not give away exquisite color combination, however, used to depict the prehistoric age. With less usage of bright colors, another picture caught the attention of the seeker named 'The Youth of Jesus'. It was a master piece, hanging in the museum from early eighteenth century. Although, the youth of Jesus is not discussed clearly, thus none of the reading provides any history of his education and training, however, the artist, James Tissot showed him a faithful son of Joseph, assisting him in his work of carpentry. This painting has clearly depicted the early life of Christ, his anticipated passion which He carried in his young life. (Livia & Stoenescu, 2011).
