A.Using Jane Daggett Dillenberger's “Leonardo's Last Supper Transformed,” explain in detail why Warhol chose to recreate the Last Supper.

Warhol recreated Leonardo's masterpiece, “Last Supper” on the wall in refractory of Santa delle Grazie in Milian. There were a number of different sizes and mediums used for this painting with a number of different colors and paintings on black velvet. One of the main reasons for creating “Last Supper” was that this photograph was in his studio and when his brother saw this, he influenced Warhol to recreate the same painting for their kitchen. It was a normal tradition of that time to hung paintings for the kitchen or living room where family sits and enjoys. In Warhol family, there was a small kitchen where the family enjoys and had their meal. Another important reason was that, his mother always carried a small size photograph and as they were a religious family, Warhol decided to paint the same painting on the wall.

B.Warhol reinvented the original piece. In what ways did he alter it

During recreation of the painting there were a number of alterations and changes occurred in that painting. One of the major changes was in the third figure in which there was an old and bald figure from the right; he was standing hesitantly and looking helplessly to the Christ. In original picture, the same figure was appeared as a despoiled and trivialized. Another major change was that, in recreation there was no any detail of the architecture that was part of the original painting. There was also omission of the tapestry hangings on the walls in the recreation; while in original painting there is much emphasized on these details.
