Introduction

The world has become a global village and the people all around the world are communicating and interacting with various cultures through the use of technology in seconds nowadays. With the increasing level of the interaction and the communication, the level of conflict to be raised has got higher too. Our surrounding that seems to have a one common factor i.e. conflict, the potential to resolve it effectively varies from one culture to another. The utmost importance of conflict resolution can never be refuted. The effective conflict management or resolution is necessary in order to live in a society that tends to be peaceful and in harmony. The non-violent based methods and styles for the conflict resolution, after a proper investigation of their benefits and perks to the nations and historical lessons learnt, has been applauded by the all types of people living in this world. Resolving a conflict through the wars and the mass casualties as a result, the nations and cultures across the globe have agreed to use better conflict resolution approaches such as negotiating on the table, etc.

The research is conducted with an aim to understand how the culture plays it roles in conflict resolution and to identify and analyze the cultural similarities and dissimilarities in resolving a conflict and the underlying reasons for such similarities and dissimilarities. The first part deals with the definition and explanation of the important terminologies & the role of the culture in conflict resolution. The second part deals with the description of the culture and the methods it uses, and lastly, the third part deals with the underpinning reason that why such similarities and dissimilarities are there.

Definition and Explanation of Conflict Resolution in Cultural-Context

The culture has been defined in various ways by the several researchers. The culture is collection of varying characteristics of a specific people group. The culture incorporates everything i.e. from the language to the arts, music, religion, social habits, and cuisines. The cultures are interacting with each other on daily basis and therefore, have become dynamic and more integrated. The conflict resolution is the specific ways, techniques, tools or methods through which various people resolve the conflicts. The way people react to the conflict depends upon the numerous factors such as past experiences, age, cognitive processes, etc. The most important factor playing a vital role in the management of the conflict is the culture. Because culture affects the way an individual behaves and acts, the conflict resolution and culture tends to have strong mutual relationship (Avruch, 1998).

Following is the research undertaken in order to evaluate the interrelationship of the culture and the conflict resolution.
