Overview

Greece is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, filled with rich history and architecture. The Greek hold their culture and historical heritage in the highest regard and it is of a lot of importance to them. Greek architecture is unique in itself. It has its own class and heritage that has existed since a long time. There are three most prominent Greek architecture styles: The Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.

The Greek Temples

The temples are the most significant buildings of Greek Architecture. They are constructed according to principles or rules, known as the order or style that is based on the column. These commands start from the roots of Greek art: the root lore Dorian. To these are added the Corinthian order. The Doric order is a more sober construction pattern of Greek architecture, giving a greater sense of heaviness. It has been linked with man and the idyllic order.

The Ionic construction style, finer and rich, has been associated with femininism. The Corinthian style is comparatively more ornamental. These temples are located in the great sanctuaries of Greece: Delphi, Eleusis, Athens, Delos, Epidaurus, Miletus and Ephesus (Howe, 2012).

Ancient Architecture

The inspiration to create stylish buildings comes from the splendor of Hellenic culture. From the fifth century BC and for six hundred years, Greece reached a level of architectural design and quality touches throughout Europe. Builders and artists admire the creations of Greek peers and adopt them as a common point to design aesthetics of their buildings. An example of ancient architecture is the Parthenon temple.

Classical Architecture

In the year 200 before Christ, the Greeks and the Romans applied a force that protected the Macedonian conquerors. After defeat, the Italians declared the independence of the Greek people. The fine art of the ancient building of the Greeks gradually became a part of the Greco-Roman style. Concrete was used to maximize their development. The works of the classical Greek architecture are solid, functional and possess aesthetic balance. They represent a significant contribution to the history of Western design. A classic example is the Pantheon. Architecture in Ancient Greece developed in the Greece of antiquity, from the first millennium BC to the second century. Greek architecture lays the foundation for what has come to become the architecture of the Western world since many centuries.

Definition of Architecture

Art of designing and constructing buildings is the academic definition of architecture. It combines three elements mentioned by Vitruvius in the first century BC. His knowledge was recorded in the oldest treatise on the subject. A building achieves its purpose when it is beautiful, useful and resistant. To do that is part of the design and construction of a structure that supports the entire foundation of the building.
