Analysis of Bias in Discourse

Introduction

Language has always been a core factors to the study of anthropology from its inception, however, in a different manner over several years. Language changes all the time across the social groups and space. It also varies with the time. Pronunciation in every language has been evolving in generations by generations, and new words have been adopted or developed with the meaning of older drifts. In addition, the morphology is developed of decayed (Ottenheimer, 2011). In this paper, we will discuss the core idea of Ottenheimer's Anthropology of Language. Furthermore, we will select an article to analyze the language bias in discourse by the author in his language, with respect to gender and society.

Discussion

The rate of changes is different; however, the change can be slower or faster. The language is built up unless the mother tongue is arbitrarily different or distant. After some time, the original language is not mutually intelligible, and after several years the relationship will be significantly indistinguishable from the changed relationship between previously unrelated languages. The isolated subpopulations speak the similar language, and they do not share the majority of changes. As an outcome, that subgroup will bring in changes in linguistic and ultimately they will not be able to understand one another (Duranti, 2009).

Anthropology of Language

The authoritative yet approachable introduction of Ottenheimer to the field of skills, technique, methodology, applications and tools places emphasis on the kinds of questions that have been raised by anthropologists regarding the language (Ottenheimer, 2011). He has discussed the two important concepts regarding the anthropology of language

Linguistic relativity

Linguistic determinism.

Linguistic Determinism

It is the idea that the language's structure determines and limit the knowledge or thoughts of man. This term encompasses several different theories related to the scope and nature of those limits (Duranti, 2009).

Linguistic Relativity

This term is somewhat scientific for the ways in which human makes use of a language. This idea has theorized that language has control over the processes of thoughts of those who make use of it in specific powerful ways. This idea has been used extensively in linguistic and relevant fields in order to evaluate the role of language in cognitive function. In the general idea of linguistic relativity, there are two major schools of thoughts. One school of thought is the version of relativity in which dominant force is the language which influences the perception of people about the world at large (Short, 2007).
