American Culture and its importance

Culture

Culture has a number of definitions, but basically it is the identity of the individual. It is what defines a person. It affects whatever a person does due to his idea, principle or perception or what is expected of them in terms of action (Belshek, J.A. 2006). Culture is the main distinguishing force amongst the different sort of people existing within a society. Thus, scholars have often stated that culture is not combined, and such liberty does exist to separate one from another.

Culture is not constant but varies over time to time and is passed from one generation to another. The change comes from the fact that one generation adds at least something to culture. Culture is often used in a similar context to socially learned ideas as well behaviors.

Popular culture

Due to the innovations and globalization that has taken place, a new concept has taken a root which is known as “Popular culture”. It is termed as being a combination of cultural activities and also commercial products that reflect and are concerned with the tastes of the masses. It does not just target individuals, but aims to target the general public. Common accessibility is the main characteristic of Popular culture, meaning that culture should be produced in such a way that it consumed by most of the people.

Scholars and theorists have always called for the rationality behind Popular culture. In their opinion, a culture which is designed and created ultimately for commercial gain is not justifiable. Thus, there is a need of exploration into the concept behind popular culture.

Popular culture holds great importance as it is incorporated into nearly every element, whether it is fashion, advertising, or product design or packaging. Furthermore, as it is basically interrelated to culture, it is being considered for mass communication and education purposes. According to a number of learned individuals, culture has to have the element of popularity; otherwise it will serve the purpose of culture and ultimately we will have to accept its existence (Campbell, J.2012)
