Achieving Competitive Advantage through Effective Communication
Abstract
This research proposal's aim is to talk about achieving competitive advantage through effective communication. The motive here is to describe how effective communication can be used to achieve competitive advantage in an organization, particularly in the context of project management. As the importance of effective communication cannot be underestimated in any discipline of business, in the same manner, its importance cannot be overemphasized in project management. There are a number of researches and statistics which show that almost seventy four percent of projects are unsuccessful. One of the contributing factors to this failure of projects is insufficient or poor communication. The importance of effective communication is vital in all three phases of projects including initiation phase, execution phase, and closedown phase. Moreover, an organization that wants to gain competitive advantage over its competitors must need to know the importance of effective communication in this regard. Organizations can achieve success with the help of successful organizational communications in many ways. The importance of effective communication is wide spread in the organization, from the accomplishment of the company's mission and vision, to greater compliance, increased growth, following the standard operating procedures, meeting all the financial objectives, and enjoyment in the workplace. Thus, to highlight all these aspects, this research paper aims to discuss how organizations can use different methods and practices of effective communication in order to gain competitive advantage over their competitors, and how effective communication can ensure success in project management.
CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION
One of the most important factors that are immense in the success of a project is communication. Practicing effective communication not only plays a critical role in bringing success in team based projects, but it also helps in bringing success in overall organization by making it competitive on the basis of good organizational communication. Thus, focusing on the success of projects will ultimately result in success of the organization. In order to become a world class company, effective communication is one of the absolutely critical things to implement within the organization. The organization could not be considered as a team of employees or staff, rather it would be considered as just a management giving orders and directions to its human resources, without having effective communication. Therefore, in order to build a successful organization, managers must have to lead the industry by exemplifying with the help of their actions, what they want others to do (www.ics.uci.edu).
Setting the right expectations and careful communication planning with all the stakeholders of a project is extremely important. Other keys for the success of projects include carefully established face to face initial communication within the team of projects in order to create the team dynamics and learning the expectations of customers. Most of the project managers have this belief that the project's success is a matter of effective communication.
