Abortion should be legal.

Introduction

Abortion is a medical term that means the abortion of pregnancy by the expulsion or removal of an embryo or a fetus from the uterus before it becomes viable. An abortion may also occur spontaneously; in this case it is termed as miscarriage. It can also be induced purposefully. However, the term abortion is usually taken as and refers to the induced abortion of the pregnancy of the human beings. Abortion is the safest procedure when abortion is done within the local law through healthcare professionals in the developed world (Zigerell & Barker, 2011). However, the unsafe abortion practices lead to around 70,000 maternal death each year, as well as, more than 5 million admissions to the hospitals each year worldwide. There has been a constant debate on whether abortion should be legalized or not. There are many aspects that need to be discussed in this issue. These include the health of the mother; the fact that the child that is being aborted is also a living human being and killing him would mean killing a human being and many more. This essay will provide a discussion on whether the abortion should be legal or not making use of facts.

Prevents Illegal Abortions

It has been observed that the prohibiting abortion does not prevent and stop abortions. The women who are willing to abort their child will do it anyhow making use of illegal means too. This will lead to a number of women dying during abortion, or may be due to the result of incomplete or inappropriate way of doing abortion. The women may be infected during the process of abortion (Herbitter & Gold, 2013). It is also possible that the process of abortion is not done in a proper way and the child survives but with serious birth defects that carry on along the life of the person. If the process is carried out by criminals, the women may be blackmailed for the rest of their lives.

Prevents Abuse and Neglect of Children

If the children are not wanted by their parents, they are going to suffer all along their lives and will be neglected by their parents too. Circumstances like poverty may also leave children unwanted and neglected. The child who is born without their parents wanting him may also be a victim of physical and sexual abuse that is quite common these days.

Prevents Poverty

It is a matter of fact that bringing up children is not an easy thing. This requires a lot of money. If the unwanted children are born, they will have to live in poverty, as well as, make their families poorer. This will mean that the expenses of the parents will ultimately increase and the already unwanted child will bear the consequences of it in terms of the neglect and abuse that he will have to face (Herbitter & Gold, 2013).
