A Proposal to Improve Child Protective Services in America

In this research paper, we would attempt to study Child Protective Services in America. We intend to suggest ways to improve Child Protective Services in the country. In order to adequately answer our research premise; we would need to answer a number of questions regarding Formative Assessment, Progress Monitoring and Evaluation. An identification of data required to bring improvements in Child Protective Services would be made. Adequate programs would be suggested to improve Child Protective Services in United States.

Child Protective Services (CPS) refers to a governmental agency in the United States; the agency deals with cases of child abuse and neglect. The agency functions under different names in some states as well. Some of the common names applied to the agency are Department of Social Services" and "Department of Children & Family Services" (DCFS) (Axin & Levin, 1997).

Section III: Progress Monitoring, Formative Assessment, Progress Evaluation

In order to improve the functioning of Child Protective Services; the performance of the agency must be measured and assessed on a regular basis. Thorough assessments should be conducted to ensure the safety of children across United States. Decent interventions can assure protection and safety for children. The general public of United States must realize improving Child Protective Services is not the issue of the government only; but of the whole American society.

Analysis of Parents' work schedule

Any emotional issues that children face and is linked to Parents

Financial stability of the parents.

How are the parents making the children spiritually and religiously strong and what are their future plans.

Present and future plans of the parents when it comes to the education of the children.

Relationship amidst children and parents?

The availability of the parents.

The capability that the parents have when it comes to effective and efficient upbringing of the child.

Data Required to Answer Questions on Child Protective Services

In order to answer relevant queries on Child Protective Services and to improve its overall functioning; relevant data and statistics must be obtained on child neglect and abuse. Reviewing the statistics would allow researchers' to understand the realities and to identify the existing loopholes in the agency. Researchers on the topic must obtain state wise statistics on cases of child neglect and abuse. Patterns must be identified and remedial measures should be implemented to improve the situation.

Types & Quantity of Data Required To answer our research questions; a diverse set of data should be collected. By analyzing diverse data sets over different periods of time; researchers would be able to identify the problem areas and the growing concerns in the American society.
