Young Men in Our Culture Today Lack the Drive and Motivation
Introduction
Young men in our culture today seem to lack the drive and motivation in pursuing important life goals, such as education, careers and relationships. After researching this idea for several weeks, I have found many compelling reasons why it may be happening. Actually, I have found more theoretical reasons than I care to discuss, so I will focus on the few I find most interesting and viable. These theories involve changes in our school system, medications for treating ADD, current parenting styles and acceptance of lifestyle changes (Blasco, 2003). Through my research I kept stumbling over words like “problem”, “predicament”, “quandary”, “dilemma”, “troubling”. Most professionals view this lack of motivation as a problem, for valid reasons. However, is this actually a problem or is this the beginning of a cultural lifestyle change where men and women are changing roles or have no defined roles?
Motivation and enthusiasm manifest as desire and interest, and as a driving force that pushes to take action and pursue goals. Lack of motivation and enthusiasm denotes absence or deficiency in desire, interest and driving force. Lack of motivation and lack of enthusiasm are two of the main reasons for failure and of living a mediocre life. People lacking in motivation and enthusiasm are usually passive, blame everything and everyone for their circumstances, and often come up with many excuses why they shouldn't or cannot do this or that. On the other hand, a motivated person is energetic and positive, takes action to improve his or her life, and does not give up when there are problems (CERI, 2000). Lack of motivation and enthusiasm can show up everywhere, at home, at work, in relationships, in pursuing goals and in everything else. This often brings indifference, unhappiness and dissatisfaction.
Young men in our culture today seems to drive and motivation in achieving important goals in life, such as education, career and relationships is missing (Tremmel, 2010). After researching this idea for several weeks, I found many reasons why you might be happening. Actually, I for theoretical reasons, as I found I can talk, so I'm going to the few that I find most interesting and concentrate viable. These theories include changes in our school system, drugs for the treatment of AD, current parenting styles and acceptance of lifestyle changes. Through my research, I was "stumbling dilemma" with words like "problem", "difficult situation", "Dilemma", "disturbing." Most experts see this lack of motivation as a problem, if for valid reasons (Carson, 2000). However, question arises whether it is really a problem or it is the beginning of a change in lifestyle culture in which men and women change the roles or functions are not clearly defined.
