Introduction

Army service is one of the most dangerous, demanding and difficult task. But returning to civilian life is even more difficult. It poses great challenges for both men and women as its one of the weirdest transition. Three out of every ten war veterans have complained that the transition from war life to civilian life has been difficult for them and they have been facing constant problems in readjustment procedures. Twenty seven percent of veterans have said that the re-entry was difficult for them.

The research proposal will explore the challenges experienced by these veterans during their transition from war life to civilian life. This paper will explore what we know from published literature regarding the post traumatic experiences of veterans after they have been discharged from the responsibilities of military life.

Discussion

It is questionable that why do some veterans find the readjustment to civilian life difficult while others easily get adjusted to the civilian life and pass their transition phase smoothly. To solve this mystery several studies have been conducted and literature is full of the case studies and analysis of veterans passing through transition phase. After actually digging my way through several articles and case studies relating to the question I figured out some manifest dimensions of veterans transition phase.

In general the war experiences, attitudes and demographic characteristics of an individual veteran identifies the aspects that independently influence the transition phase of a veteran and predicts whether a veteran will experience easy or difficult transition to civilian life

The Basic Challenges

Matt Fossey in Across the wire (2010) examined that ever since the identification of transition from military life to civilian life as a serious issue, several cases have been reported indicating the significance of problem. Sadly, a very large number of individuals are inflicted with grave psychological disorders. Throughout the history the dilemmas of veterans who find the readjustment to civilian life difficult has been very clearly ignored. Several youthful individuals give up on their leisured and comfortable lifestyles to join the military forces (Fossey, 2007). The military life style can be blamed of crafting a totally different form of existence for soldiers. Individuals are looked after from morning till night, their life styles are crafted into a network of disciplinary procedures. And suddenly they are discharged from the life style that was actually made to permeate in every dimension of their persona. They are pushed out of the tough, disciplined and non chaotic environment to the daily chaotic demands of civilian life (Staden, 2007).

Many individual do not want to go back to the disordered life where people around them cannot serve his/her needs as they have never shared his/her experiences.
