Welding Safety Devices

Introduction

Oxygen and fuel equipments have many uses such as welding, cutting and de scaling. Due to this reason, it is used in many workshops, industries, and garages. It is so widely used that people do not care about the dangers of using it. Few people are injured each year because of these dangers as they do not care about the risks of using this. It is essential; to identify risks at early stages or it will create hazards. Because of these hazards many people die each year. There are potential hazards, using these equipments so, it is used with safety, otherwise; risks will create hazards which will be unbearable.

Discussion

Risk assessment is mandatory in order to avoid any hazard in future. Risk assessment should be planned by supervisors and Engineers, supervising the labor in workshop. It also includes permit to work. Supervisors are responsible for the safe handling of all the welding equipments and usage of these equipments with safety.

Protective devices

Welding equipments, machines and cables, are placed at a distance that can not harm to personnel. There should be a good housekeeping maintained in order to avoid slip, trip and fall. There should be sign boards placed at workshops in welding areas, and it is ensured that the protective equipments such as eye protection and other protective things shall be worn by the welders. Workers and the other person shall be protected from the radiant energy by non combustible screen or shields. They are required to wear eye protection and face protection. Welders should understand the hazards whether to do welding in the area or not.

Eye and Face Protection

Welders and their helpers are required to wear face protection, and eye protection, which are non combustible, and flame resistant shields or screen, to avoid direct contact of radiations, and heat to the face and eyes exposure. Screens are not fully packed but allow the circulation of air and should be semi transparent materials. Welders shall also wear protective spectacles and side goggles with side screens protective shields. Spectacles are mandatory during oxy fuel gas cutting and welding. Spectacles or goggles should have filtered and cleared lenses.

Gloves

All welders should wear protective gloves during welding. These gloves should be flame resistant and able to provide resistant from electric shock during welding.

Aprons, Capes and Sleeves

Flame resistant apron should be worn by welders, to protect the front of the body. It is also used when enough protection is needed against ...
