Introduction

Thurgood Marshall was the son of a teacher and a dining car waiter, his great grandfather was a slave. To allow her son to a school education, His mother even sold her wedding ring. In high school he already learned by heart by the U.S. Constitution. What had been abandoned as punishment for stupid pranks aroused his deepest interest. He first completed a college education at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania in 1929. Excluded as a black man by a law degree from the University of Maryland, he then went on to reserved for black Howard University in Washington, who was at that time as a training centre for civil rights attorneys.

Educational background

Thurgood Marshall went to Frederick Douglas high school for graduation in the year 1925 and then went to Lincoln University in the year 1930. At the Lincoln University Thurgood was the member of the first black fraternity along with Langston Hughes. The membership of Thurgood is now memorialized by Alvin Pettit in the year 2013.

Originally Thurgood wanted to attend a law school University of Maryland School which was in his hometown. But due to the school's segregation policy he was not accepted. Later Marshall attended the Howard university school. He graduated in the year 1933. After three years from graduation Marshall was representing his client for the policy of the University of Maryland to end the segregation.

Family and Marriage

Thurgood Marshall was married twice. He first got married in the year 1929 to Vivian Burey. After the death of her wife in 1955 he married Cecilia Suyat in December of the same year. Both remained married until the death of Thurgood in the year 1933.

First Case

Thurgood won his first major trial in a civil rights case in 1936, where the Supreme Court of Maryland requires the admission of Murray, Black student at the Faculty of Law of the University of Baltimore, reserved for whites and proposed to finance his studies at a university in another State. Originally Thurgood Marshall himself was a victim of segregation at the University of Maryland where he was not allowed to attend even when he was willing to attend the school. Marshall successfully represented his client in against the segregation and won the case (Tushnet, 1993).

Supreme Court and Thurgood Marshall

He is the first Black served from 1967 to 1991, the Supreme Court of the United States . Ago marked his passage through progressive positions, especially in his chosen field, the civil rights movement. He obtained his law degree from the Howard University of Washington in 1933 and settled as a lawyer in Baltimore. In the same year he started working for the Baltimore section of the National Association for the Advancement of colored people. In 1940, he pleaded for the first time successfully before the Supreme Court of the United States, in Chambers of Florida. The Court annuls the death sentence of four young blacks who had come to confess to a murder after five days of relentless questioning. The same year, he was appointed General Counsel of the NAACP.
