Introduction

This I Believe II is a collection of essays that are compiled in almost the same manner as the first book in the series was, with seventy five essayists providing their views on philosophy and their own personal beliefs and way of life. There are also included in this book, contributions from Yo-Yo Ma, the world famous cellist, as well as Tony Hawk, the professional skateboarder. While all the contributors are exceptional and remarkable in their own sense and bring to the game their own distinct characteristic, not all are world famous or retain records. This is what makes this book special. It may be read as a book retelling stories of success from ordinary folk, but may also be genuinely interesting as a book detailing the life and struggle of famous celebrities or activists. In this paper I will be reviewing This I Believe II, and the way in which it has been compiled. I will also be analyzing the success of the book as a whole in delivering its purpose.

Discussion

As mentioned above, the book is clear in its indiscriminative ways, as it provides writings from famous sportsmen and musicians, but within the book there is also a range of essays that depict the lives of ordinary folk. These include a diner waitress, an Iraq War veteran, a farmer, and even a newly married husband. The essays in themselves are moving and the audience is more then likely to find each irresistible and hard to put down. The first book had the same unerring quality to immersing the audience in completely, not just because of the variance in people's motivations and their struggles, but of the hardwired morality in each of the essays, the outcome that allow the essay writer to conclude with a wrapped up moral. ...
